Concurrent sampling: a view from the experience of the Spanish sampling programme

    Get PDF
Working document presented at RCM NAIEO has been asked by RCM NA to provide an evaluation of the concurrent sampling carried out from 2009 following EU Data Collection Framework. Given that IEO has always applied the concurrent sampling on board (as part of the Discards Sampling Programme), the present document refers exclusively to the on-shore sampling. It has to be noted that some of these considerations were already presented to the Workshop on Implementation Studies on Concurrent Length Sampling (WKISCON2) as requested by ICES. So some figures are taken from the work developed there, based on the 2008-2014 data series provided by IEO. Considerations on quality issues (not addressed by WKISCON2) are presented as part of a case study focused on the Northern Spanish coastal small-scale gillnets fleet

Comportamiento de las mujeres empresarias: una visión global

    Get PDF
____________________________________________In recent decades the number of companies created or driven by women throughout the world has experienced significant growth. This has facilitated the implementation of various studies on the differences in the characteristics and performance of enterprises, as well as in attitude and business strategies adopted by entrepreneurs depending on their gender. This paper discusses gender differences in the behavior adopted by entrepreneurs for the development of enterprise functions. We have observed that the differences in the characteristics and qualities of women entrepreneurs compared with men affect the behaviour adopted by the former. This has been related to the different perception of every gender on the obstacles and opportunities for the development of business activity, as well as their business motivations

Developments in the “Northern and Southern Hake” Case Study of FishPi

    Get PDF
The overarching objective of the FishPi project is to strengthen regional cooperation in the area of fisheries data collection. The role of every case study within the project is to bring together the countries with the most involvement in the fisheries selected to coordinate and cooperate in the search of a probabilistic regional sampling design. To this aim, case study 4 (CS4) is focused in the Northern and Southern Hake stocks. The work done in the case study include the description of the fishery at a regional level, the compilation of the present national sampling activity, the compilation of the logbooks and/or sales notes from 2013 and 2014 –to have a single regional data set of all trips of interest in the region– and different runs of simulations to test the selected sampling scenarios and stratifications. Finally, an objective evaluation of the performance of these regional designs is expected to understand the changes needed compared to the present situation. This document presents the progress done in this case study, from the data compilation to the simulations, documenting the different steps taken and allowing an understanding of the pending tasks

A Practical Environment to Apply Model-Driven Web Engineering

    Get PDF
The application of a model-driven paradigm in the development of Web Systems has yielded very good research results. Several research groups are defining metamodels, transformations, and tools which offer a suitable environment, known as model-driven Web engineering (MDWE). However, there are very few practical experiences in real Web system developments using real development teams. This chapter presents a practical environment of MDWE based on the use of NDT (navigational development techniques) and Java Web systems, and it provides a practical evaluation of its application within a real project: specialized Diraya.Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia TIN2007-67843-C06-03Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia TIN2007-30391-

Spanish onshore sampling of Lepidorhombus spp.

    Get PDF
Working document presented in WGCATCH.Results of Lepidorhombus spp. from the Spanish onshore sampling programme under the Data Collection Framework (2009-2014) are presented. Sampling covers two species (Lepidorhombus whiffiagonis and Lepidorhombus boscii) in ICES Subarea VI, VII, Divisions VIIIabd and Divisions VIIIc-IXa. Fishery description shows the importance of five métiers for these species and the relevance of a small group of ports. A description of the sampling level, sampling design and sampling procedures in relation to landing practices are presented, as well as a brief discussion about further developments to improve the sampling

Improving the analytical assessment of fish stocks by providing parameters of data quality via InterCatch

The last multiannual Community program for the collection, management and use of data in the fisheries sector (Commission Decision 2008/949/EC) stated the provision of precision levels and sampling intensities of the estimates at national level. However, the unequal compliance of this standard has hindered its application in stock assessment and the consequent scientific advice. The cost-benefit analysis of a sampling program, besides addressing logistical and economic constraints, should deepen the potential of the tools currently available. This article proposes to test the calculation, provision and use in stock assessment of extensively collected precision parameters. First, sampling intensities and coefficients of variation of fisheries-dependent parameters are calculated using the COST software, a statistical tool specifically designed to quantify uncertainty in marine sampled data. Secondly, alternative ways are explored to provide precision parameters to the stock assessment coordinators by using InterCatch, the existing ICES web-based system to submit national data and compile international catch matrices. Finally, the incorporation of these precision parameters in the assessment model is tested, through a stock assessed by statistical assessment models (such as SS3) which can account for sampling errors. Thus, it will be possible to quantify how errors in input data propagate through stock assessment models to affect harvest rules, and also to help identify the most cost-effective data collections that adequately support the advisory process
